The Way We Were
Hi! So happy you stopped by. In case you haven’t ventured over to my intro page, I am Stayce Whelden Richardson. I am a fifty-five year old mother of five, four boys and one girl. I have been married for thirty-six years to my husband, Lindon. Ours is a pretty fun story. We went to junior high school together. He was a cute boy with straight, blonde, bowl cut hair and short, he was so short. Yet, I was too, so it was okay. We were supposed to go to the movies with friends. A date? You bet. Not so… he got in trouble and his mother grounded him. Back in the seventies there were no such thing as cell phones, so, poor me thought he stood me up. Well, who wants to date a guy that stands you up? Not me! That was it for us. Months later, my family moved from New Hampshire to Florida. Flash forward four years. He ventured to Florida and I agreed to let the blonde haired shorty come to see me. News flash… people grow up. Wow! He was 5’10'‘ with a mustache and everything. Handsome did not quite sum him up.
We got engaged on May 6th, 1983. Kids in love.
April 28, 1984. Best day ever!
I had planned on moving back to New Hampshire to live with my auntie when I finished nurses’ aid training. Lindon was an unexpected bonus. He said, “I’ll leave you to visit with your aunt the night you arrive.” I saw him the next night and every night for the next six months unless one of us was working. We got engaged on May 6th, 1983. He ended up going to school in Tampa, so back home I went. We married in April of 1984. It was the best! Everything I imagined. In 1985 we moved to Hudson, MA, which was an hour from his job but it was as close to Boston as we could afford. Nice apartment. Exciting life. Wisdom teeth extraction for both of us, both sick with the flu, a miscarriage, and a fire. Can you cry, “I want to go home!” I know I sure did. He said, “I will apply for one job in Tampa, if I get it, we go, if not we stick it out.” I prayed so hard for him to get that job. It worked. He got the job and our little northern adventure was over just like that. Whew!! I was so happy to be home again. Fast forward thirty-four and half years and here we are in Wesley Chapel, loving life with five kids, some married-in ones, seven grandbabies, and a full life. So, that’s my life in a nutshell. I am glad you have joined me at this point in my life. Please, come on the rest of my journey with me. Quarantine? Yeah, I can chat about that too. Next time.
Happily,
Stayce Whelden Richardson
