Quarantine Time

This is Addison. She is cool!

Would you say you live a boring life if quarantine does not drastically change your life? I fear this could be the case for me. What is there to say about me that staying in my house is my norm? Does it mean my life has no meaning, no excitement? My daily routine was not affected by the quarantine as others have been. My daughter, for instance, began working from home. My sister had to close her salon, her livelihood came to a screeching stand still. Yikes! The only thing that did change for me was not watching my granddaughter, Addison, every Wednesday. My life went on as normal…

Until my husband got furloughed. Then he was home every day. Oh, did I mention my oldest son lives with us and also works from home?! My auntie also stayed with us for the winter, so it was the four of us here in the house, every minute of every day. WOW!

He gets the office with the doors and the view. Notice my attempt at humor in a sticky situation sign?

At first my mind was blown. For thirty-six years I would send my man out into the big wide world to fight dragons with a kiss. My home was my domain to roam around how I wished, only to happily welcome him home again at the end of the work day with a meal and a smile. How is it that none of that works anymore? My mind reeled. I wandered around in confusion, wondering what to do to look busy to him. My life was busy to me - full of laundry, cleaning, writing, dishes, meals, etc. Yet, with the man in the house would it look that way? Would I seem sluggish and slow to his usual fast-paced world? It was a real dilemma.

One day flowed into the next and a new normal emerged. Have you ever heard of Life Below Zero or Dr. Oakley, Yukon Vet? Well, my auntie and I watched these shows, sometimes day in and day out. We started those before the big Q (quarantine, that is) and kept right on. The boys were like, “Are you watching that show again?” Yup. We were watching, being so good during quarantine, staying home and staying safe. I mean, what else is there to do when your routine is upended by a stay-at-home hubby and the big Q! Lose yourself in the Yukon! Haha!

All kidding aside. My new norm is good. My boys have their spaces and I have mine. I feel content now that at least the big Q in Florida is lifting and I can have sleepovers with my grands once again. I’m not back to the normal of watching my Addison every Wednesday, but hey, life is good. It always was.

The new norm:

My hubby is permanently working from home, building a business to keep this wonderful roof over our heads and food in our mouths. We are okay! God is good!

I wear a mask when I go out to make others feel better because I care about how others feel. It doesn’t hurt me any, besides fogging up my glasses, so why not?

I love flowers!

I love flowers!

My family visits me again. My grands sleep over and we build tents to have fun in.

Tents are so fun to hang in.

Tents are so fun to hang in.

Life is good. Love abounds! We are alive and moving in life.

What about you? How has quarantine affected you?

Happily,

Stayce Whelden Richardson
